The agent assists with activities such as identifying and developing shipper and carrier relationships, negotiating freight rates, coordinating shipments, tracking loads, resolving transportation issues, and supporting customer service functions. The agent is not an employee of the brokerage company and maintains control over their own work methods, schedule, and business operations.
